ALASKA MAGAZINE
MAY 2025 COVER & PHOTO FEATURE
After spending two and a half months exploring Alaska by van, I approached Alaska Magazine with a story built around the places, wildlife, and moments I had photographed across the state. The idea developed into an eight-page photo feature for the magazine’s May 2025 Roadtrip Issue, with one of my images also selected for the cover. I supplied the photography, introductory copy, and individual captions needed to shape the collection into a cohesive editorial story.

The Challenge
02
Turning an Alaska Archive Into a Cohesive Story
The May issue was already planned and nearly complete when I made the pitch, so the work needed to earn its place quickly. Alaska Magazine wanted a varied selection of high-resolution images that could carry an eight-page feature, along with concise captions and a short introduction delivered on a tight editorial deadline. The challenge was to turn photographs made across different seasons, regions, and journeys into one clear story that felt true to Alaska and useful to the publication’s design team.
I curated a broad image library from several trips through Alaska, including two and a half months of van travel across the state. I organized the files for easy review, worked with the editor on the final selects, and wrote the introduction and detailed captions that gave each image a sense of place. The final collection moved between remote roads, mountain landscapes, wildlife, winter conditions, and everyday moments from the journey, giving the editorial team both visual range and a consistent point of view.
Execution & Results
03
From a Direct Pitch to the Cover
The completed story ran as an eight-page photo feature in the May 2025 issue of Alaska Magazine, and one of my photographs was selected for the cover. The feature brought the work to more than 200,000 subscribers around the world and gave the images a lasting life in print. More importantly, the project shows what I bring beyond individual photographs: a strong concept, a carefully edited body of work, clear written context, responsive collaboration, and dependable delivery from the first pitch through the final publication.
